同情也好、鄙視也罷，無論你用什麼態度的眼光看待Alex Rodriguez，他在基襪大戰第三場，扮演英雄角色。挨了記「疑似故意」觸身球、第6局轟出陽春彈，兩度帶動洋基隊反攻。

「很棒，有夠爽，」A-Rod說，「敲全壘打是最佳反擊。」

雖然開轟很爽，但A-Rod對於那記觸身球，還是耿耿於懷。「不管你喜歡我、或是討厭我，用觸身球打我就是不對。那麼做，很沒職業意識，有夠笨。」

洋基隊總教練Joe Girardi也不能諒解那記觸身球：「不該砸人，別動私刑。不能因為不滿制度，就用這種方式。」

至於紅襪隊總教練John Farrell，則為子弟兵Ryan Dempster辯護。「Dempster過去也是這樣投的，」Farrell說，「他用這種方式保護快速球，面對中心打者，他得攻擊對方內角，後來他沒做到這一點，A-Rod得以隨心所欲出棒，把球轟出中外野全壘打牆。」

Dempster也否認那記觸身球是故意的。「但我知道，當打者被砸到後，敲出全壘打，那感覺絕對很爽。」Dempster說，「不幸的是，那開啟了對方的4分反撲。」
